Flood

Floods are one of the most common disasters in the United States. Although heavy rainfall due to storms seem to be the most commonly recognized type of flood, hurricanes and backed up or outdated drainage systems can cause serious flooding as well.

If you haven’t experienced a flood before, this does not necessarily mean that you won’t experience a flood in the future. The risk of flooding is based on a number of factors besides history. The amount of rainfall, types of flood-control measures and rainwater run-off due to building and development all increase the risk of flooding too. Consequently, different parts of the same neighborhood can be prone to flooding for different reasons. This is why everyone should have a flood insurance policy in place. It is important to know that most homeowner’s insurance DOES NOT cover flood loss or damage!

The City of Hialeah is an active participant of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This means that residents can purchase flood insurance at lower rates from a licensed private insurance company or independent property and casualty insurance agent in the State of Florida. Rates are determined on a number of factors including the type of flood zone a property lies within. It is also important to know that policies will take effect 30 days after your purchase!
