Hialeah Art

The City of Hialeah, home to a Hispanic population greater than 94%, has long been recognized as blue-collar industrial City. While it continues to be a leader in economic development, the culturally diverse city is currently on a journey to increase arts and culture opportunities, growing its artistic footprint throughout South Florida.

Public Art

The City has worked to establish permanent artistic spaces for residents to enjoy. The Garden of the Arts is a free, open-air art museum, featuring murals and sculptures by renowned artists, all found along paved walkways. The newly designated Leah Arts District is intended to enhance the cultural and economic life of the city, by allowing joint work and living spaces within existing industrial buildings for artists of all kinds. Milander Center for Arts and Entertainment is a center for art galleries, of different sizes, different styles and covering different topics.

Partnerships

In addition, partnerships with different artists and institutions have given Hialeah residents access to art collections and exhibits, which may otherwise be out of reach. In CLIMA, the City collaborated with an artist and various scientific and community leaders for an exhibit on sea level rise. A partnership with The Miami Urban Contemporary Experience presented a Black History Month exhibit, and a partnership with The Miami Urban Contemporary Experience and the Celia Cruz Legacy Project presented a one-of-a-kind Women’s History Month exhibit.

The latest partnership with the Perez Art Museum Miami and the Knight Foundation brings high-quality reproductions of art from PAMM’s permanent collection to the community. The program kicked off in the Miami-Dade County communities of Hialeah, Homestead and West End. The reproductions were featured at the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino and in the Milander Center complex.

The City invites everyone to explore our vibrant city and venture into the different permanent artistic locations. Stay up to date for new artistic and cultural events, exhibits and partnerships by visiting our website or following on social media @cityofhialeah.
