Fire Prevention
Fire prevention is the key to saving lives and property. Fire prevention education is the first step in the Fire Department's commitment to protecting the lives and property of our citizens, guests, and neighboring communities. The City of Hialeah Fire Prevention Division provides a high level of life safety and property protection for the community and first responders through inspection, education, and enforcement.
The City of Hialeah Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division is committed to providing you the most comprehensive information and assistance possible.
General Duties
Fire Prevention is the inspection, education, and enforcement division of the Fire Department providing life safety services through code enforcement and inspections during the new business development process, general fire inspections, operating and special use permitting and complaint investigation.
Code Enforcement
The City of Hialeah Fire Prevention Division enforces extensive state and local fire and life safety codes. The Fire Prevention Bureau is the enforcement arm of the Fire Chief concerning all life safety issues.
The Fire Marshal has the prodigious responsibility for prevention of death, injuries, and property loss caused by fire. This is accomplished through the strict enforcement of building, fire and life safety codes.

Inspector Duties
Inspectors handle numerous referrals from various sources including Fire Companies, other City departments, and the general public. In addition, the Fire Prevention Division provides the public with fire prevention and life safety information, inspections of all new buildings and annual inspections of existing buildings.
Fire Plans Examiner Duties
The fire plans examiners review all plans for new construction and remodeling done throughout the City of Miami. They are specifically responsible for reviewing:
- Fire alarm systems
- Fire pumps
- Fire sprinkler systems
- Generators
- Smoke evacuation systems
- Standpipes
