Overview
The Streets Department has jurisdiction over 427 miles of public right-of-way owned by the City of Hialeah. Administration consists of the Streets Department Director and his administrative staff. The Director sets performance standards, prepares and oversees the department budget, provides operation planning and direction, interrelates with the Mayor and City Council on department matters, and manages department personnel. The other work units consist of Maintenance, Construction, Engineering, and the Stormwater Utility Program.
Responsibilities
The Department is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining the City’s public right-of-ways. It is also responsible for issuing right-of-way work permits and inspecting all construction taking place there. The Streets Department, through interagency agreement with the Miami-Dade County Public Works Department, maintains the secondary canal system right-of-way landscaping located in the City above the waterline. The Department’s Stormwater Utility Program administers the City’s federal NPDES stormwater discharge permit, the stormwater fee billing system, stormwater master planning, and other related stormwater management program requirements.
