The City Attorney is also responsible for investigating and handling all claims served on the city. The office drafts city contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and the various legal documents required by the Charter, Code, Mayor, and City Commission, such as restrictive covenants and liens. The City Attorney also provides legal opinions when requested by the mayor, the city council and individual councilmembers on legal questions pertaining to their respective powers and duties or as otherwise required by the duties of the office. The City Attorney may also perform such other duties as are prescribed by the Charter, Code, or other City directive or legislation.
