  • Glenn Curtiss won the "Scientific American" trophy in 1908,1909,1910, and permanently retired the trophy. The trophy is the first aviation prize to be given in the U.S.
  • Glenn Curtiss was awarded the "Collier Aviation" trophy by the Aero Club of America in 1911 for the greatest achievement in aviation – the development of the hydroaeroplane more commonly known as the amphibious airplane or the flying boat.
  • Glenn Curtiss was awarded the "Gordon Bennett" international speed trophy in 1909 at Rheims, France by defeating the top pilots of Europe and gained the title "Champion Aviator of the World" (he set a record of 47.65 mph)
  • Glenn Curtiss developed the motorcycle engine which broke the world speed record in 1909. The time for 1 mile was 26.4 seconds and was set at Ormond Beach, Florida.
