Youth Program Component

The City of Hialeah's Department of Parks and Recreation provides the Early Prevention & Intervention Youth & Internship Program (EPI) to prevent crime, violence and drug abuse among youth. The program began in 1992 to target "at risk" youth (12-17 years old) in Hialeah's community. Some youth are not aware that choices they make may endanger them. Unforeseen consequences may include health risks or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The program's main goals are to prevent our community's youth from making harmful decisions and to provide effective intervention for youth who have already made poor decisions that have affected their lives.
Our EPI Educational Center is located inside Milander Park.

Internship Program Component

The City has expanded EPI by adding an internship component to the program. The EPI Internship Program provides an opportunity for college students to gain valuable work experience and develop their communication, organization and management skills through leading in and managing various program components.
