FOODS THAT FIGHT STRESS
(Excerpt from SAFETY NEWSPAPER, City of Boynton Beach, FL)

You can help curb the effects of stress by getting the right nutrients if you pay special attention to these foods:

Whole grain breads speed amino acids to the brain where it increases levels of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, which acts as a sedative.

Oranges are full of potassium, an electrolyte that conducts nerve impulses to the brain’s neurotransmitters and helps them work properly. Other sources are: poultry, mild cheese, apricots, whole grains, nuts and legumes.

Fish, avocados, potatoes, and beef are rich in B vitamins to ward off anxiety, irritability and mood swings.

Rice, pork, fish, beans, sunflower seeds, enriched breads and cereals are rich in thiamin. A deficiency in it is linked to mental illnesses and depression.

Wheat germ, soybeans, bananas, peanuts artichokes, spinach and other green vegetables are all loaded with magnesium, which is crucial to the body’s general defense against stress.
