The Hialeah Police Department maintains a full time Standards and Training. This Section is housed in a separate building that includes, classrooms, a ten position indoor firing range with a computer controlled target system, gymnasium facility with a full range of free weights and selectorized exercise equipment and a Defensive Tactics area covered with Japanese tatami mats.

The Standards and Training section is staffed by both civilian and sworn personnel. In addition to the staff assigned to the unit, the Department has a number of instructors that teach course in their area of expertise such as domestic violence, juvenile procedures, Human Diversity etc. The Training staff is responsible for State mandated training and in service training. The Standards and Training Section conducts research, training and development of weapons, equipment, tactics and procedures. This Section is also responsible for training all personnel in Weapons of Mass Destruction and Terrorism Response, Incident Command, and Rapid Action Tactics for School Shootings.
