The Hialeah Police Department Traffic Section consists of an Accident Investigation Unit and a Motorcycle Unit.

The Accident Investigation Unit consists of 5 certified Traffic Homicide Investigators, 6 Public Services Aides, and 1 Traffic Homicide Supervisor.

The A.I.U. Investigators primary mission is investigating crashes that have resulted in a death or serious bodily injury. They routinely handle approximately 150 minor traffic accidents per month and are responsible for investigating another 150 hit-and-run accidents per month.

The Public Service Aides are a new addition to the Hialeah Police Department’s Traffic Section. This unit was established towards the end of 2004 and its primary mission is to enforce the unlawful parking and storage of vehicles and vessels on public property.

The Motorcycle Unit consists of 8 Motor-officers and 2 Motorcycle-Sergeants. The unit’s primary mission is selective traffic enforcement and educating the motoring public in an effort to reduce the number and severity of vehicular accidents. The Motorcycle Unit also performs a variety of other functions, including escort services for VIP visits and funerals, participates in special events such as parades, school career days, and public demonstrations.

The Motorcycle Unit has the added responsibility of administrating the State Certified School Crossing Guard Program. This program provides adult crossing guards at or near the elementary schools within the City of Hialeah. The primary mission of the school crossing guards is the safety of young children going to and from school. A member of the Motorcycle Unit oversees and coordinates the program.
