Over 80% of fire deaths occur in the home and 70% of those fatalities occur at night.
Install smoke or heat detectors on every level of your home.
Detectors save lives!
Make sure that your family has an escape plan in case of a fire in your house. You need to have two ways of exiting your house.

Have a meeting place to go to after you have escaped the fire. This will enable you to make sure that everyone is out of the fire safely.
If you must leave the kitchen while cooking, turn off the stove. Most house fires start in the kitchen. Don't leave pot handles turned so that a child can reach them. Children are burned or scalded every day from kitchen accidents.
Never overload extension cords. They are a major source of fire in the home.
Provide large ashtrays, the kind that won't tip over, for smokers.
Fire Prevention is everybody's business. LEARN NOT TO BURN!!
