ISO rated Class 1 Fire Department, serving a residential population of over 215,000 with a daytime population in excess of 325,000

Fact About The Department

"Committed To Serve, and Protect Our Community"

The Hialeah Fire Department had its beginnings when the City of Hialeah was incorporated in 1925. It has since grown along with the City of Progress to it’s present size and stature as an ISO rated Class 1 Fire Department, serving a residential population of over 236,000 with a daytime population in excess of 336,000.

Service to our Industrial/Commercial/Residential City is provided by 243 professional men and women who deliver the finest Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Service, Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response and Inspection Services in the Southeast. Their service to the community is supported by 31civilian personnel who assure the Dispatch Services, Fire Prevention, Fleet Maintenance and Administrative responsibilities are professionally carried out.

Fire Rescue Operations members are assigned to 24 hour shifts working a 48 hour work week. Currently 160 of our 243 sworn members are paramedics with the remaining 83 trained as EMT’s.

The Department responded to over 27,800 emergency calls in 1998 from seven fire stations strategically located within the densely populated 20 square miles of the City limits. Eighty-five percent of our calls are medical in nature, and are shared between six Basic Life Support engine companies, one Advanced Life Support engine company, six Advanced Life Support transport companies (ambulance) and two Basic Life Support aerial companies. Operations are supervised by a north and south District Chief and each shift is managed by a Battalion Chief.

The Hialeah Fire Department is divided into five divisions: Rescue (Emergency Medical Services), Fire Prevention, Logistics (Emergency Management), Support Services and Training. These areas of responsibility are split between the Deputy Chief (Operations) and the Fire Chief, and are managed by Division Chiefs.
