- Where are you located and what are your hours?
Department offices are located at 3700 West 4th Avenue, Hialeah, 33012. Normal
hours of operation are 8:30am till 4:45pm Monday through Friday. Our Customer Service
telephone number is (305) 556 3700. This is also our after hours emergency number
- How do I open an account?
Bring proof of ownership or if you are a tenant bring a lease or notarized letter
from the owner of record to the Department during normal working hours. Bring identification
that agrees with the above. A deposit depending on meter size is required as well
as a $10 new account fee. If you owe the Department or City for unpaid bills from
another account, that balance must be paid before new service is established.
- Why is my sewer bill higher than my water bill?
It costs much more to treat sewage for proper disposal than it does to produce and
clean fresh water.
- Why can't I pay with a credit card?
At this time the Department does not have the ability to process payments by credit
card. In prior years customers were not willing to pay the credit card fee charged
by the credit card company in addition to their water and sewer or city bill.
- Why can't I transfer my deposit?
When a customer requests that service be disconnected, there is unbilled usage on
the meter. This could be from one to sixty days of usage. The deposit is applied
to any outstanding amount due the City and the balance if any is refunded. The deposit
must be maintained in the current account to cover that service. All new accounts
must have a deposit of their own to be opened.
- Is anyone reading my meter?
Meters are read on a regular basis. That is every 30 days for large commercial accounts
and every 60 days for residential and commercial accounts. Depending on location,
your meter can be covered very rapidly with dirt and sand. Meter readers are trained
to obtain readings through all kind of conditions. Usually meter readers can read
the meter and be on their way before the customer knows they were there. The next
day the meter may be re-covered with sand and it appears no one is reading it. In
certain instances the customer has parked over the meter or has placed trash and/or
other obstacles over the meter. The meter reader must then estimate the reading.
The billing will then catch up with the reading at the next billing period.
