Traffic Section

The Hialeah Police Department Traffic Unit consists of a seven-man Accident Investigation Unit and two six-man Motorcycle Squads, including two Motorcycle Sergeants.

The Accident Investigation Unit members are certified traffic homicide investigators, and investigated 23 traffic fatalities in 2002, 22 traffic fatalities in 2003, and 28 traffic fatalities in 2004. They routinely handle approximately 150 traffic crashes per month. The Unit is also responsible for investigating 150 hit-and-run crashes per month.

The Motorcycle Unit’s primary responsibility is selective traffic enforcement and education in an effort to reduce the number and severity of crashes. They do this by addressing the traffic violations that are the primary causes of crashes. They also help ensure the safety of school children by monitoring the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in school zones. In addition, they participate in special events such as parades, school career days, and public demonstrations.
