The Criminal Identification Unit’s personnel are assigned to four main areas; Crime Scene Investigations, Photography Lab, Booking desk and Latent Identification.

The main mission of the Unit is to assist Detective Bureau and Uniform Patrol Units with the investigations of criminal activities. It also provides the State with expert testimony in Court proceedings and provides assistance to other City Departments with related photography duties.

Future plans for the unit include the implementation of digital technology to replace the photography lab equipment and mug shot file system. In addition, the procurement of equipment to improve the efficiency, safety of the unit and its personnel while complying with Federal and State safety regulations.
