Update #6

The City of Hialeah continues to be committed to the safety and wellness of our residents, businesses, and visitors. The City of Hialeah will be taking the following community measures as a precaution to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

All special events in the city will be postponed until further notice.
All City of Hialeah public meetings will be postponed until further notice.
All City of Hialeah Parks & Recreation facilities will be closed effective Wednesday, March 18^th until further notice. All Parks & Recreation programs have been postponed until further notice. All permitted gatherings at City of Hialeah Parks have been canceled until May 1,^st 2020 and is not accepting any rental applications.*
All Hialeah Public Libraries will be closed effective Friday, March 20, 2020, until further notice. All Hialeah Public Library programs have been postponed until further notice.
All Education & Community Services programs have been suspended until further notice.
Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment exhibitions and events have been canceled/postponed and will be closed for tours until May 1,^st 2020.*

The City of Hialeah encourages the community to continue practicing social distancing by putting space between yourself and others, continue to practice healthy habits, like washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and staying home if you’re sick, to help slow the spread of COVID-19, as recommended by the CDC.

*At that time, the City of Hialeah will evaluate recommendations by the CDC and Miami-Dade County and provide an update.

La ciudad de Hialeah continúa comprometida con la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros residentes, empresas y visitantes. La Ciudad de Hialeah tomará las siguientes medidas comunitarias como precaución para ayudar a prevenir la propagación de COVID-19:

The City of Hialeah has issued an order following the Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 03-20 mandating all entertainment establishments and non-essential businesses closed to patrons until further notice, in light of the COVID-19 coronavirus and increased cases of community transmission in South Florida.

Governor Ron DeSantis activated the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program to support small businesses impacted by COVID-19. The bridge loan program, managed by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), will provide short-term, interest-free loans to small businesses that experienced economic injury from COVID-19. The application period opens today, March 17, 2020 and runs through May 8, 2020. Visit https://floridadisasterloan.org/ for more information.

Please be advised that beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all City of Hialeah Parks and Recreation Facilities will be closed until further notice. Restaurants in the City of Hialeah are ordered to close at 11 p.m. Kitchens may remain open for takeout and delivery orders. We encourage residents to use delivery services or drive-thru at fast-food establishments, which will remain open, as they continue to take precautions to ensure food safety.

Los restaurantes en la ciudad de Hialeah deberán cerrar a las 11 p.m. Las cocinas pueden permanecer abiertas para pedidos de comida para llevar y entregar. Mayor Carlos Hernandez has signed a Declaration of State of Emergency for the City of Hialeah, today Monday, March 16, 2020, at 10:23 A.M. in conjunction with the declared State of Emergency from the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County. The City of Hialeah will be able to use this Declaration of State of Emergency to prepare the City in the event of an emergency and provide access to additional resources, which will be available to the City in case of an emergency.

About COVID-19

COVID-19 can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, including when an individual coughs or sneezes. These droplets may land on objects and surfaces. Other people may contract COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

Symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath. Symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as many as 14 days following exposure. Most people recover from COVID-19 without needing special treatment. The elderly and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems and diabetes are more likely to develop serious illness.

Take steps to protect yourself

Clean your hands often

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact

Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.

Take steps to protect others

Stay home if you’re sick

Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.

Cover coughs and sneezes

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
Throw used tissues in the trash.
Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Wear a facemask if you are sick

If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room.
If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask). Facemasks may be in short supply and they should be saved for caregivers.

Clean and disinfect

Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
