Temporary Conversion to Free Chlorine Treatment

Dear customers,

Beginning October 16th, 2023 and continuing through October 29th, 2023, the
Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) will temporarily change the
method of chlorination used at each of its regional water treatment facilities. This
brief, annual change to a free chlorine treatment means stronger disinfection and
bleaching process than the usual blended chlorine treatment. This practice ensures water mains are clean and free of potentially harmful bacteria throughout the year.

During this period, customers may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of
their tap water. The mild chlorine taste and smell is normal and poses no health
risk. Most customers will not need to take any precautions as the water remains
safe to drink and is treated according to both state and federal standards.
If you have any questions concerning this temporary change in the water
treatment process, you may contact (305) 556-3800.
