YLC Orange Program- 21st CCLC
The Young Leaders with Character (YLC) program offers after school programming Monday through Friday for teens in grades 6th to 8th from out Partner Schools at three convenient locations in the city.
During the summer months, the YLC Program offers a FREE Summer Camp for incoming students and current students attending our partner schools at our COHEA site lcoation.
This program provides families with high quality out-of-school services in a safe, fun, and encouraging environment for FREE.

Afterschool Program
We’ve designed the YLC program for teens who are in need of quality after school/ care with a strong educational focus.
Registration Information
Parents are required to bring the following documents to complete registration:
- Completed Registration Form
- Passport or Birth Certificate
- Current photo of child
- Proof of address-utility bill
- Current report card/ School Acceptance Letter
- Any documentation documenting Child with Special Needs (if applicable)

Our Staff
Our staff includes state-certified teachers, trained site directors, tutors, counselors, and program leaders. There are CPR and first aid certified staff at every site. Staff meet Level 2 screening requirements as described in S. 1012.32 (Florida Statutes).
We contract with a diverse and talented group of community-based instructors for enrichment activities. Please ask us what fun, enriching activities are upcoming this year in after-school.
Program Accommodations
Program accommodations include a Master Inclusion Teacher, a behavioral analyst consultant for individual cases as needed, as well as daily inclusion aides and trained staff on-site to apply behavior modification techniques for children with behavior challenges and educational strategies for those who have learning difficulties and attention deficits.
We offer inclusion support at sites if needed and our after-school staff-to-child ratios are 1:15.
YLC Family Member Services
Activities for parents and guardians are also an integral part of the YLC program. At the YLC, parents and guardians are encouraged to continue learning through workshops and classes offered.
- Workshops and training through the Parent Academy Resources.
- Free ESL classes for parents or guardians whose teen is enrolled in the YLC program. Parents can participate in either classes offered through the Hialeah Public Libraries, or at one of our sites in a class setting with the Special Programs Instructor.
Fees
Registration and weekly activities are completely FREE due to funding provided by the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.
Summer Camp Program
The YLC Summer Camp will be held at City of Hialeah Educational Academy. Summer Camp will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM-6:30 PM beginning June 10, 2024 through August 15, 2024. Sites will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, 2024 in observance of Independence day.
Summer Program is FREE due to the Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC grant.
* Summer Camp participants must be enrolled or incoming students from our 3 Partner Schools listed above or from Private Schools in the Hialeah Area.
Summer Activities Include: Academic activities with Certified Teachers in Literacy, Math, and Science, Enrichment activities such as Nutrition/Cooking classes, STEM classes, Music Program including Piano and Guitar, Dance classes, Swim and Guard Start Classes, Indoor/ Outdoor Activities though SPARK Fitness. Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack included.
