The city of Hialeah now has clearer guidelines for what goes in the green container and what does not. By adhering to the new regulations, you can help our city and the environment. When recyclables are wet dirty, or intermingled with non-recyclables, the entire container can become contaminated.
By following these procedures, you can reduce contamination and help keep items out of landfills.
Never package recyclable materials.
Empty all food and liquids from containers before placing them in the containers.
When in doubt, discard it! If you are uncertain as to whether or not an item is recyclable, place it in the garbage brown container.
Each customer is provided with a 96-gallon green recycling container.
Place the container on the swale area where it's accessible for the truck with the wheels facing your property.
Place your container at least 5 feet away from vehicles, receptacles, fences, fire hydrants, trees, and light poles.
Keep containers away from low-hanging trees and electrical/utility lines.
Please position containers out for collection the night before or before or by 6 am on the day of collection.
Residents should not combine recyclables with garbage, yard waste, or bulky waste materials.
No packages or cartons may be placed on top of the lid.
Do not place any other containers or packages outside.
Container lids must be completely closed.
Place containers on a level surface.
Do not place flammable or radioactive chemicals, biohazard materials, vehicle batteries, or paint into the container.
