The Streets Division has jurisdiction over 427 miles of public right-of-way owned by the City of Hialeah. The Division consists of five work units and employs 68 people. Its annual budget is approximately $12 million. Administration consists of the Streets Division Director and his administrative staff. The Director sets performance standards, prepares and oversees the division budget, provides operation planning and direction, interrelates with the Mayor and City Council on division matters, and manages division personnel. The other work units consist of Maintenance, Construction, Engineering, and the Stormwater Utility Program.
The Division is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining the City's public right-of-ways. It is also responsible for issuing right-of-way work permits and inspecting all construction taking place there. The Streets Division, through interagency agreement with the Miami-Dade County Public Works Department, maintains the secondary canal system right-of-ways located in the City above the waterline. The Division's Stormwater Utility Program administers the City's federal NPDES stormwater discharge permit, the stormwater fee billing system, stormwater master planning, and other related stormwater management program requirements.
